I’m enthralled by the old forts along the Texas frontier. We’ve already toured Fort Stockton and Fort Lancaster. This trip we ventured far off the interstate to Fort Davis. This sprawling fort protected travelers and freight on the San Antonio…
Amerind, The Thing, Dinos, Recycled Roadrunner
On the way to Texas we stopped at the Amerind Museum in Dragoon, AZ. (It’s at the exit right before The Thing.) For being in the middle of nowhere, it was a great museum and art gallery. On our way to downtown Dragoon we passed Rattlesnake Ranch’s sculptures. And found a recycled roadrunner in Las Cruces.
Free Dashcam
I’ve been wanting a dashcam for a while now. I feel the need to capture the animals and crazy drivers. I ordered a $300 dashcam from Amazon then decided that was too much and returned it.
Plan That Trip
Vaccines: check. Bulk pack of masks: check. We’re ready to travel! I’ve been asked how I plan our trips. Here’s how.
Even More Apps for Travel
The second vaccine is in the arm and more travel is in the offing. So I’ve been refreshing my travel apps suitability (and found more). Start with the original apps post, There’s an App for That… and a Website… and Hardware. Then here are some new ones.

Recovering from Wildfire Damage
Last year we saw the results of wildfires along the Beeline Highway and stopped to see some Wild Horses along the Salt River. We were curious about the recovery, especially of the burned saguaros. Here are some photos, but sadly, no wild horses showed themselves on this trip.
Phoenix Zoo
My travel blog has not had much travel blogging during the virus era. But today we traveled 20 minutes to the Phoenix Zoo. We recently restarted our annual membership (figuring they still had to feed the animals even if visitors were few). We were told today was the busiest it has been in a long time.
Garden Walk
Despite the pandemic sometimes you need to get out of the house and go for a walk. We did. At the Desert Botanical Garden. (We decided to use some of the “free” money the government gave us to support the garden and the Phoenix Zoo with annual memberships.)
National Bird Day 2021
It’s National Bird Day and there’s an app for that. Three apps actually: Merlin Bird ID. As expected, this app helps you identify a bird. It walks you through some steps. First, your location. Then size, color, and activity. It…
