Winthrop, Washington

I admit I never heard of Winthrop, Washington until I planned our return route. It is not a bad little town. There were no chain hotels so I chose the Hotel Rio Vista. A good choice.

We had a nice view of the rivers from our balcony. That’s the Chewuch River in the foreground flowing into the Methow river.

Speaking of hotels: we hit 2 Hampton Inns, 2 TownePlace Suites, and 2 Holiday Inn Express on the way up. The Hampton Inns were terrible. In the first one the toilet would not flush. I like the TownePlace Suites because they have a small kitchen. I can refreeze the half-gallon ice containers there. With the solid ice plus a few frozen water bottles, things stay cold for a week in the Lifetime cooler.

On the way home we hit a Fairfield Inn and a Springhill Suites. They are Marriott properties and I’m Lifetime Titanium with Marriott. Also a Best Western Plus – not very good.
