Things to do in and around Las Cruces, NM. Visit Dripping Springs in the new Organ National Monument, White Sands National Monument, the New Mexico Space History Museum and the plaza in Mesilla, NM. Don’t visit the White Sands Missile Museum because it’s closed on Sundays.
Dripping Springs
There is a lot to see at Dripping Springs. We saw the visitor center and the road out. It was a little chilly for the three mile hike to the actual springs. But we did see
- Yucca!
- Wind AND solar power
- Hawk
- Gravel road and low hanging clouds
White Sands National Monument
I may have been here as a kid; don’t remember. But I remember this trip:
- Looks like plowed snow, but it’s gysum
- Yucca
- More Yucca
Space History
Got to see at least a few missiles here.
- Even the trash cans were missiles
- V-2 rocket engine from a missile fired at White Sands. In the 50’s every cheap scifi movie included the same V-2 liftoff.
- Gene Roddenberry is the latest addition to the Space Flight Hall of Fame
- A tribble – not an unnamed president’s hair
- One to beam up.
