Cleburne Railroad Museum

Things to do in Cleburne, Texas: visit the Cleburne Railroad Museum.

Why on earth were we in Cleburne? Baseball – a tournament for our 16-year-old grandson’s team. Baseball is a big deal in Cleburne. Their first pro team dates from over 100 years ago. The current pro team (The Railroaders) play in an independent league. Home field is a new $25 million dollar field called The Depot. We were there for one tournament game.

Railroads are also a big deal in Cleburne. Three different lines converged here, including the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe. (Being old enough to remember Judy Garland singing this, I tend to “sing” it too.) The Santa Fe built a huge maintenance facility in town in 1898. Closed now.

We discovered the museum by accident. we were parking to go to the Layland Museum and there it was. They captured me at “railroad.” Like many railroad museums it had a model railroad. (see here and here and here.)

The museum has only been open since February. We were the only visitors.
