This is a quick update for Wednesday, November 29. I have many more photos to show you, but wanted to rush a few out.
Throughout this trip we’ve seen signs that say “Elk Crossing,” “Elk Migration Crossing,” or just “Elk.” But the elk avoid these signs. But speeding down the freeway portion of US 101, the Pacific Coast Highway, I jam on the brakes and grab my camera with the long lens. Two elk grazed casually right beside the road, impervious to the traffic. Here’s one:
Farther on, back on two-lane US 101, a sign says for elk viewing, use Davidson Road. We did and there they were, finally obeying a sign:
Wow, great shot! They don’t seem to be as skinny as the moose I’ve seen in the wild.
I took 27 pictures to get one good one. In the other 26 they’re grazing.
