The Alamo is a key part of Texas history. The battle there fought for Texas independence was lost. But with the slogan “Remember the Alamo” victory was achieved.
The site itself began as a Spanish mission (see also San Antonio Missions.) And indeed the church is the building we all think of when when we picture the Alamo.
- What we envision when we say “The Alamo.”
- But the grounds were quite extensive.
- Inside the church.
- On the grounds: a stream with Koi.
- William Travis in command.
- We don’t think of the defenders as Hispanic, yet many were in favor of independence from an over-controlling Mexico City. Like Juan Seguin.
