Driving south to Denali we stopped in Nenana, Alaska. (The linked Wikipedia article is an interesting read.) Two reasons: railroad museum and Alaska’s best burgers. North of town is the Monderosa. Locally owned, cash only, no cell service, and quaint. You can tell from their Facebook page. And the burgers are good!
The railroad was completed in 1923, the year the depot was built. President Warren G. Harding drove the golden spike just north of town. We actually saw the rail car he used at Pioneer Park.
