Hite is at the northernmost point of Lake Powell. Glen Canyon Dam creates this reservoir on the Colorado River. When I first visited in 1965 the lake was still filling for the first time. It filled. Then drought emptied the lake to the point that the lake is no longer even visible at Hite.
Hite is along a little-used Utah route 95. In fact we did not encounter another car going our way on the whole 113 miles from Blanding to Hanksville. We did see a few cars and motorcycles going the other way. The scenery on the way was beautiful. The cell service was non-existent.
- Jacob’s Chair from Route 95 on the way to Hite.
- When out of cell range for a long time the context of the rood disappears. I liken this to entering the holodeck.
- This is the view of Hite after we passed it. The gas station was closed. So was the ranger station.
- The Hite marina no longer has access to water.
- We were the only people in Hite.
- There was a lizard in Hite though.

- I stopped on the bridge to take this photo of the Colorado looking upstream.
