Things to do in Idaho: visit one of the two National Monuments, Hagerman Fossil Beds National Monument. Kind of a disappointment, really. You can’t actually visit the fossil beds. But the visitor center was interesting. And there are wagon ruts from the Oregon Trail.
- The Hagerman Horse. Ancestor of modern horses, but died out in North America. Discovered by a local rancher, the beds produced over 3 tons of fossils, including 5 complete horse skeletons.
- Snake River Overlook in the monument.
- These are alleged to be wagon ruts from the Oregon Trail.
This marked our 27th National Monument out of the 91 National Monuments west of the Mississippi.
